What we do and how we do it

We focus on the persuasiveness, effectiveness and credibility of you and your message, when communicating in presentations, meetings or one-to-ones.

We base our training on the foundations for effectiveness and credibility, not only what you say but how you say it.

The what, or the Content, include the words, graphics, visual aids, movies etc. The how embodies Acting techniques to master the tone of voice and body language. Used correctly these techniques will enhance your audience’s understanding and their belief in your message.

Many trainers misquote the ‘statistics’ 7% words, 38% tone of voice and 55% body language. These numbers are based on research which should not be taken out of context. See below for the real facts.

Firstly, the facts and the logic of the underlying message must be sound. But the effectiveness, credibility and persuasiveness of the message depends critically on the methods of delivery. The key skills include not only tone of voice and body language, but also structure, rhetoric and visual aids.

Our approach is to coach and train you to blend the Content and Acting techniques for maximum effectiveness and persuasiveness. We believe the Content to be as important as the Acting techniques in achieving success.

Our training and coaching model has 3 layers which are essential to the effectiveness of the message:
  The Core Components
  The Acting and Content Techniques/Skills
The Methods used during and after training

These 3 layers are described now in more detail:

Mehrabian Misquoted

There is a much misunderstood statistic on the importance of the various elements of face-to-face communications

     7% words
    38% tone of voice and
    55% body language

This was derived from Albert Mehrabian's 1971 study.

Many interpret the results to mean 'only 7% of the message is in the content'.

If this were true you would never need to learn the vocabulary and grammar of a foreign language - say French - because 93% of your message could be conveyed by appropriate gestures and tone of voice.

Clearly this is nonsense.

Mehrabian’s the study addressed ‘liking’ which is something else entirely. Nevertheless, some trainers focus just on the voice and body language. Unfortunately, the results emulate many politicians who deliver polished speeches of little substance. Top
